Weymouth and Portland

Approx.25 minutes to the west by car or train. Site for the sailing events in the 2012 Olympics. Beautiful, safe, sandy beaches, picturesque harbour, lots to do for children and adults. Rugged Portland with its castle, National Sailing Academy and Portland Bill.

West Dorset

Includes the historic county town of Dorchester, its museums and large Wednesday market, the lovely village of Abbotsbury with its Swannery and Tropical Gardens, Lyme Regis and its associations with the "French Lieutenant's Woman"

Purbeck

Swanage and its safe, sandy beach, the Saxon walled town of Wareham, spectacular Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, the abandoned village of Tyneham, the fossil shales of Kimmeridge Bay, medieval Corfe Castle standing atop a gaunt hill

Poole and Bournemouth

Poole (20-25 mins away by car or train) and Bournemouth (40-45 mins away by car or train) are Dorset's largest towns, Poole has Europe's largest natural harbour which contains the nature reserve of Brownsea Island, and Bournemouth with 5 miles of sandy beaches

Wool and Monkey World

Wool with two supermarkets, two pubs, a station, and the beautiful surprise of Spring Street and the old village. Fascinating for old and young alike, Monkey World is a reserve for rescued primates, mainly chimpanzees and lemurs, a day's visit less than 2 miles from the caravan park. Close to Monkey World, visit the Tank Museum at Bovington Camp
